The Hawaii State Department of Education website provides documents, tools and references that are in different file formats. The following chart lists some of the file formats and the respective software required:
A file larger than 1MB may take longer to view and download. The speed of you your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection and your personal hardware configuration may also contribute to longer viewing experiences and slow downloads.

ADOBE PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT DOCUMENT (.pdf)
Adobe's Free Acrobat Reader is needed to view these documents. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, you will have to download and install it onto your computer.
Once Acrobat Reader is installed, you have two options to view (.pdf) file(s) from this website:
OPTION 1
Downloading/Saving the (.pdf) file(s) to your computer
Download the (.pdf) to your computer for viewing or printing, now or at later date. Saving a larger file to your hard drive is the best option, particularly if you do not have a fast Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection.
Internet Explorer Browser – (Saving Files to PC)
Right mouse click the link and select "Save Target As." Follow prompts to save the file to your location, taking care to recognize where you saved the (.pdf) file. You may then open it within Acrobat Reader.
Safari & Firefox Browsers – (Saving Files to Macintosh)
Either control+click or click and hold the mouse button down on the link until the menu pops up. Select the item from the menu that indicates it will "save" or "download" the file to the disk. Select the file type before you click OK (the file type should be (.pdf) or source, depending on your browser).

Opening (.pdf) Files in your Web Browser (both PC and Macintosh)
Once you have Acrobat Reader installed, you may simply click on the link for the (.pdf) file and the file should open within your browser. Caution! Attempting to open a very large (.pdf) or using an older browser may result in complications. If you experience problems, revert back to Option 1, save the file to your computer and then open it with Acrobat Reader.

Simply double click the file and it will open up in Acrobat Reader.
MICROSOFT OFFICE SUITE SOFTWARE:
POWERPOINT, WORD and EXCEL DOCUMENTS
Each respective program is needed to view each of these respective file formats. If you do not have each of the required programs, you will have to purchase, download and install it onto your computer in order to continue.

VIDEO FORMAT VIEWING AND DOWNLOADS

The Hawaii State Department of Education is providing three different video file formats in large and small resolutions. Video files are usually large and may come in excess of 20 MB per file. Please remember that large files may take longer to view and download. Each video file format should automatically stream and start playing in your Internet Browser. The speed of you your Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection and your personal hardware configuration may also contribute to longer viewing experiences and slow downloads. Please make sure you are running the most updated version of your video software and the appropriate codecs are installed.
If your computer prompts you for a missing video software or video codec for your video player, you may try another video file format or visit the appropriate Microsoft, Apple or respective video player's website and install the requested software or codec.

If you experience problems, revert back to Option 1, save the file to your computer and then open it in its respective Microsoft Office program.
