SCHOOL LEADER CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION/OUT-OF-STATE APPLICANTS

The State of Hawaii’s Revised Statutes, Section 302A-605 requires all Principals and Vice Principals to meet certification requirements of the Department of Education in the State of Hawaii. The certification requirements limit our ability to actively recruit qualified educational leaders from other public or private schools throughout the nation.

However, if you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible to be placed on our External Educational Officer list:

  1. Master’s degree in Educational Administration or Leadership.
  2. No less than five years of appropriate school-level experience, of which at least three years shall have been as a contracted full-time teacher.

Our External Educational Application process requires:

  • Completion of the External Application Form 103X.
  • Transcript(s): Official college and/or university transcript(s) bearing the school seal or graduated color signature, showing the degree(s) granted and date(s) conferred.
  • Administrative and/or Teaching Credential(s): A complete (front and back) legible copy of your administrative and/or teaching credential(s).
  • Employment Verification: Completion of the enclosed form(s) by your former employer(s) verifying prior administrative and teaching experience (contracted half-time or more), signed by an appropriate school/district official and stating the inclusive dates of employment.
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, including a letter from your most recent administrative supervisor.

Applications are processed when all of the requested information is received. Should you have further questions, please write to Educational Officer Recruitment at the address noted above or call (808) 586-3242 or email us at eo_recruitment@notes.k12.hi.us .
