are Hawaii's Nominees for 2010 NCLB-Blue Ribbon School Program
... Two of the schools, Momilani Elementary and Royal Elementary, were previous recipients of this award for outstanding achievement. Frito-Lay of Hawaii, sponsor of the Hawaii Distinguished Schools Program, awarded these three elementary schools with $3,000 each for their outstanding achievements this past school year..

Mililani High Teacher Lisa-Anne Tsuruda Wins $25,000 Milken Award ... Lisa-Anne Tsuruda’s passion as an educator extends far beyond the Language Arts State Standards of the courses she teaches at Mililani High School. So, it is only fitting that this 16-year veteran of Hawaii’s public school system be selected as Hawaii’s 2009 Milken Educator Award recipient and presented a $25,000 cash prize from the Milken Foundation." Statement by Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto on impending lawsuit to halt furloughs ... During this difficult economic period for our state, the Department is utilizing the resources it has to provide classroom instruction and services for our students. "Should funds become available for public education, we would be willing to reopen negotiations with the union and restore instructional time by reducing the number of furlough days." (091017)

NAEP 2009 Math - Hawaii Students Continue to Show Gains ... approximately 2,800 fourth graders from 140 of Hawaii’s elementary schools and approximately 2,900 from all 72 of the Hawaii’s public and public charter schools with grade 8 students took the NAEP known as "The Nation’s Report Card." NAEP results for reading and science will be released next year. (091014)
