High School Redesign

High School Redesign"High school redesign" is a research-based effort to reform high schools away from the traditional high school structures or systems of the past. It is based on the research studies - "Breaking Ranks" (1996) and "Breaking Ranks II (2004).

  • Webmaster's note: These studies are no longer available from principals.org. See "More" below for other references.

All 43 Hawaii public high schools signed on to the Hawaii High School Leadership Compact in 2006 to implement high school redesign in each high school.

  • Briefing Paper (from GreaterExpectations.org)
  • Data-Driven High School Reform: The Breaking Ranks Model (64p PDF)
  • Book: Breaking ranks II : Strategies for Leading High School Reform (available from Hawaii Public Libraries)
