CD1: The school has a designated school committee or council that will regularly address school health issues.

Establish a Wellness Committee

  • Representatives with an interest and knowledge in nutrition, physical education/activity, and student health and wellness are valuable.

  • The committee can be an existing body, such as, School Community Council, Safety Committee, Quality School Support/Comprehensive Student Support Systems or a newly formed group.

  • Model Team could have representation from the following:
    • Principal / Vice Principal
    • Parent
    • Health Education Teacher
    • Physical Education Teacher
    • School Health Aide
    • School Food Service Manager
    • Parent Community Network Center
    • Counselor
    • Community Health Agency Representative
    • Community Recreation and Youth Representative

The purpose of the committee will be to improve and maintain the school health environment to promote the level of healthy students with an emphasis on life long physical activity, nutrition, and being tobacco free.

The committee shall be responsible for ensuring that the Hawaii Wellness Guidelines are implemented at the school.
