No high school diploma? Check with your local Adult Education School...

There are three (3) ways to get your diploma through the Adult Education Schools...

  1. GED METHOD: The applicant must pass the GED Test with an average standard score of 450 for the combined five subtests with a total of 2250 or more and with no score on any one test less than 410.

  2. COMPETENCY-BASED METHOD: This option lets you complete a high school diploma through the adult education schools.

    • This is for anyone who has not earned a high school diploma, ages 18 years or older. Students who are 16-17 years of age must be officially withdrawn from a high school in order to be eligible to enroll in this program.

    • It takes approximately one year (five units at 30 hours per unit) to complete the entire program. There are two phases: CB Classes and Career Goals. Go to http://adulted.k12.hi.us under Literacy Programs for more details.

  3. CREDIT METHOD: Earning the same number of credits required for graduation from a regular Hawaii high school.

    • This option lets you complete your high school course(s) in an adult education school. This might be the path for you if you are short a few courses for graduation and can take the courses in your local adult education school.

The fine print...

  • High school diploma candidates below the age of 18 must be officially released from a public high school in Hawaii and must also submit a Parent's Permission form prior to enrollment.
