by the Board of Education, provides adults who are non-high school graduates a valid option

Purpose and Content
The purpose of the CBHSDP is to enable adults to further develop their communication skills-reading, writing,
listening and speaking; computation skills; problem-solving skills; and interpersonal skills. The activities are
designed to help adults become functionally competent individuals within the following five units:

for information; be able to distinguish differences between civil and criminal laws; know the qualifications for
assistance from various agencies; give an oral presentation on a newspaper article; know the procedures relating

planning a weekly menu; reading a thermometer; identifying poisonous plants found in Hawaii; writing about two
TEL-MED topics; describing initial health services available in Hawaii; listening to various speakers; knowing
the effects of drugs and being aware of other heath-related topics.

interests. In this unit, students are engaged in activities that require them to read and use newspaper ads effectively;
to fill out various application forms; to go through the interview process; to calculate net pay, overtime, etc.;
to understand earnings statements; to discuss advantages and disadvantages of different sources of employment;
and to know the financial and legal aspects of employment.
