Calendar

  • School Year: 177-180 days of instruction; 187-190 teacher work days. More than half of all schools have adopted single-track year-round or modified calendars. Multi-track year-round scheduling is applied at some schools to relieve overcrowding.calendar
  • School begins: Students at traditional calendar schools generally begin the third week in August (the 7th working day from the end of the month). Students at year-round schools generally begin four, three, or two weeks earlier.
  • School Ends: Prior to June 11, Kamehameha Day (applies to most year-round schools, too)
  • Recesses: Winter - two weeks including Christmas and New Year's Day; Spring -- last full week in March and including Kuhio Day. Year-round schools typically have Fall Recess, and might have longer Winter and Spring Recesses.
  • Student Holidays (in addition to holidays that fall within recesses): Admission Day (August); Labor Day; Teacher Institute Day (October); General Election Day (even years); Veterans' Day; Thanksgiving Day and following day; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; Last day of 1st semester; Presidents' Day; Good Friday; Memorial Day; and Independence Day (if in session).

Webmaster's note: Calendars for the schools may be found in the mySchool section of our web site. Click on mySchool at the top of the page and locate your school. Look for a calendar link on the school page.
