School choice

Public school students normally attend the school in the area where they live. Students may request a "geographic exception" under the No Child Left Behind guidelines and for special programs of study, subject to space availability. For further information, call the school where attendance is desired.

Kindergarten eligibility

Children who are five years old on or before August 1 of the school year may register for kindergarten, while children who reach five years of age between August 2 and December 31 may enroll in junior kindergarten. Kindergarten is not mandatory in Hawaii.
